Hello, I'm planning on having cataract surgery & I'm on taking carvedilol. I'm not sure the opto or surgeon are aware of this. I will let them know on Monday. However I have had someconcernswith this office since I've gone there. I was yelled at by the reg clerk because of the computer showing I am holding out & not giving them my info (if I did have the second ins why wouldn't I use it. Icallled my ins to straighten this out & handed them the phone then the night before my last testing prior to surgery I got a call from them demanding I
I give the info. I told them it wouldn't matter because the ins I gave them covers 100 percent of the cataract surgery. Then a new surg tech gets on the phone & is asking me about the ins. He's a surg tech! I said to him not to worry because I guess I opted for the premium procedure which is elective & I will pay the extra 3,800 per eye for the procedure Then he asked what took so long for me to get this done. I told him I have muscle spasms in my throat & in the event I started spazzing it might not be a good idea to have a laser in my eye.He said to me well maybe we just might do your procedure. I told him I had a procedure to correct it with Botox. I then asked if I could speak to the surgeon & he told me she doesn't, talk to the patients. I'll see her if they decide to do me. Unfortunately I became so upset my blood pressure went up to 210/104 So I called the morning I was going to in & spoke with management They arranged for me to see the surgeon. I found this tech has been there for 2 months. So when I get there I do see the surgeon......OMG We went over some things turned out they didn't know I had lasix surgery & they scarred my OD. They redid some test and found out I have lesions in my eye with tears. The opto said my OS was the worst & he said because I said so. When I asked about the options & what was the difference & what he thought, he just pointed to the most expensive. I then asked would it also help my glaucoma. Of course I knew that it has to do with the lens & the only thing they could do was put in an istent for the pressure which can help as far using eye drops in the future. So I was feeling some not sure feelings. That was why I wanted to speak to the surgeon. I asked if they had an updated list of my mess & said I was just nervous. Oh yeah & I had a copy of a previous visit that mac degeneration which was not known about! I just found out that there's a chance you could get IFIS. (Causing the iris to drop. That's due to the carvedilol) I just have a bad feeling. Then as I was going into scheduling I was asked if I neede to make arrangements for payment. I said no I have the cash right here 7,600. I decided then to pay for only one eye at the time (the one that the opto said was worst was the wrong eye too!) then I heard "oh I thought it was about the money" Everything I just told them went out the door. Unfortunately that's the only place I can go with the insurance I have. I guess I'll have to call them & let them know about the medication & also will notify my PCP on Monday) so after reading all this......what would you do?
