Hello, My Husband Has Cervical Radiculopathy & Has Received One

Hello,
My husband has Cervical Radiculopathy & has received one cortisone shot about a year & a half ago which completely relieved his symptoms of pain & tingling down his arms. His dr told him he will eventually require surgery because its so bad. However now he has different symptoms which are pains in the back of the neck which are radiating to the back & sides of his head. Nothing is relieving his pain ie: aspirin, ibuprophen, aleve, heating pad, hot shower, etc.. He can't get into see his dr until next week. Is this something he should be seen for sooner or can he wait until next week? He also has a patch of raised bumps on the back of his head close to his neck, & it looks like those are spreading to across his head. They don't itch or burn. Not sure if this is related or not? He's never had anything like this before. Also he is a type 2 diabetic & is 52 years old. Any info you can give me would be most helpful. Thank You!
