Hello! My Son Is In The Hospital With An Allergic

Hello! My son is in the hospital with an allergic reaction to something. We're not sure what from but he was at his Dad's doing yardwork. He is highly allergic to poison ivy but that's not what this is. His face is so swole that he can't open his eyes. The rash started very light on his arms; legs; belly; back; and very bad rash in his private area. Now, 3 days later everything has gotten much worse!
They have pumped him full of steroids & benadryl. The only thing that has helped him at all are epi pen shots. Those have to be given almost hourly or his face swells back up and red rash across his face comes back. Please tell me your thoughts on this. My son is miserable and the Doctors don,t have a clue how to help him.
