Hello. My husband is 72 years old .Very fit and sporty.IDDM for 20 years.2 Episodes recently of 1st left chest pain associated with small pleural effusion on the left and raised c reactive protein. He was treated with antibiotics.C reactive protein resolved as did the effusion. However 6 weeks later severe chest pain associated with small pericardial effusion and small bilateral pleural effusions and a c reactive protein that rose to 200.Once again he was treated with antibiotics this time intravenous followed by oral antibiotics and colchicine.Throat swab had revealed strep pneumonia .C reactive protein went down and subsequently rose again even though the effusions resolved .He now has only slight discomfort in the chest and a dry irritating cough. At this stage no real diagnosis c reactive protein once again rising.Your opinion is appreciated.
