Hi, For About A Year Now, I Have Been Having

Hi, For about a year now, I have been having severe cramping in my feet and legs. These go beyond the normal muscle cramps. It feels like my muscles in my toes, shins, calves are actually attacking my bones/joints. This happens when I am in a reclining position (most of the time), and especially at night when I am sleeping. The only thing that will make it go away is to get up and walk around for 10 minutes or so. Sometimes my toes get in such a cramped position that they are almost in a 90 angle at the joint. I have tried taking potassium pills, thinking that might help, but it hasn't. Is this a symptom of a larger problem that I should be worried about? I am a fairly active, healthy person who has exercised all my life, so this is very concerning to me!
