Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I am a 66-year-old woman who is a former world-class athlete. I never have been overweight. For the past three decades I have been under my healthy weight (fluctuating between five and 15 pounds under). All of my life I have had a flat belly until about a year ago. I noticed a slight rounding to it and was happy because my husband thinks a little curve there is sexy. Last August I requested Doxepin to give me an appetite. It didn't work, but in spite of no appetite, I started gaining weight about four months ago. I did not realize how distended my belly had become until my clothes no longer fit me. Currently I am 10 pounds over my healthiest weight and it all seems to be in my belly which looks pregnant. I am weaning off of the Doxepin in case that is causing this extra 10 pounds. I enjoyed drinking beer or wine until about a month ago. I just feel too bloated to consume much of anything so I mostly drink water. I have no pain or any other symptoms, just the feeling of being bloated. For five years, I have been on eight daily injections of 20mg of Nubain and high doses (4000-6000mgs daily) of Robaxin for severe back pain (to return to me some quality of life). Could these medications have caused me to develop a large liver or "fatty liver?"
