Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have a deep-ish cut caused by my vaccinated dog when his claw caught the skin of my thigh while we were swimming in the pool. It is not very bloody, though the fat under the skin was exposed. I patched the 1 inch wide by 1/2 inch deep wound up with some Steri-strips after washing it with povidine iodine 10% solution. My question is if antibiotic prophylaxis is necessary to prevent a wound infection or should I wait and see if signs of infection occur. This is my family dog who has received all of his vaccinations and recently had a normal check-up in April. Thanks.
