Hi, I'm 77, in good health. I would say my baseline is weakness but I have had syncopal and near-syncopal episodes. (I used to be a medical transcriptionist, that is why I know the terms. I do a lot of sitting and lying down but can work for about 30 minutes daily deadheading flowers, watering. My daughter is my part-time caretaker through Elder Care/DSHS, so she does housework. I don't drive, so she takes me to appts. and to the store. In the recent past, I have had these episodes of profound weakness with profuse sweating on my brow and feeling faint; I apparently don't get pale but my face flushes like having a hot flash. I was in the ER by ambulance a couple weeks ago; I couldn't stand up. Fortunately, Melanie (daughter) was here. They said there was a big fluctuation in blood pressure between sitting and standing and urged me to go to the ER even though I was feeling somewhat better. They said I was dehydrated and gave me an IV. My labs all came back WNL, they gave me a MRI (I think that is what it was) saw a spot on my liver which was found to be a hemangioma benign. I'm thinking it could be my heart because an old boyfriend had heart problems with episodes of flushing of the face. I have had a 48-hour heart monitor which showed nothing a few months ago. A couple years ago I was at a movie and the next thing I knew I started sweating, couldn't get my arms up to take off my sweater; my girlfriends helped me out to the lobby where I laid down. It didn't occur to me at that time to go to the ER, just wanted to go home. My weight is normal 171. I have a good appetite. I have a bad knee and a problem hip so I do sit quite a bit. I don't go anywhere alone, always with my son or daughter. I live alone. These episodes come and go but are occurring more often. I had a MRI of my abdominal organs a few weeks ago, no problems seen. I don't take anything except 4-6 aspirins a day, occasional over-the-counter allergy pill.
