Hi, I'm a 67 year old female. About 5 days ago I popped a "zit" that had formed under my chin (center rear before sloping into my neck) Within a couple days a hard lump had formed (skin bright red and sore) about golf ball size. Quite tender. At first I thought it might be an ingrown hair (I pluck my chin & neck due to excessive hair growth on an ongoing basis) I began applying hot compresses to draw out what I assumed was pus in some sort of cyst or boil. This felt good, but seemed to do nothing to draw any fluid pus to a head, as I had expected. I reopened the small scab left from the zit hoping it would become an exit hole for the pus. A very small bit of pus came out, but not near enough to make any difference in the size or hardness of the lump. The skin is very red and tender (about an inch & 1/4 in diameter with the zit lesion at the center. The size of the entire lump remains about golf ball size. I just don't "get it"...I thought it might be related to my Hashimoto Disease, however, the lump is not over the base of my neck where my thyroid is located...so I ruled out a goiter. 2 weeks ago I got a quite severe sty in my eye around the tear ducts. I applied drops of antibiotic eye drops 4X a day...but it has taken over 2 weeks for that to subside and swelling, redness and pus to finally stop. I don't know if the two infections are related or what. I have taken a wait & see attitude....but so far there is no change in the lump. I have no trouble swallowing and the only discomfort is the hard (red) lump itself. What is this "thing"?
