Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi In August last year I went into hospital with a suspected blockage of the bowel, I get these roughly once or twice a year due to food catching on scar tissue from previous abdominal surgeries. This time however my intestine created a blockage by twisting over on itself this required the removal of the twisted section after a week I was well enough to go home. Two weeks later I was re-admitted to hospital because the small intestine was leaking internally & was only making it's way externally via fistulas through abdominal wall, another surgery was done after four weeks in hospital by re-opening the scar from the first operation (approximately eight inches) to aid in the rapid evacuation of built up exudate, I was told that all that could be done now to allow the leaking intestine to heal & the opened scar my tummy would heal naturally well of it has except for small opening (a couple of mm) which is still exuding exudate requiring daily abdominal bandage changes. I am now being told this is due to hernia mesh being infected requiring removal surgery (mesh put in 2010 with gall bladder removal) my question is twofold could this infection come about due to the leaking intestine & could this be repaired without surgery. Thank you for your time Steven Archer
