Hi,
My wife age 36 recently had a failed ivf (unable to implant). Is it possible that her hypothyroidism could be the cause for it. Actually we had the thyroid profile test done before the treatment and the result was normal (within exceptable range for an ivf).
The sad part is that neither the doctor asked nor my wife mentioned that the test was done during her medication (thyroxine 25). The test was performed on the 4th of February 2016 and our ivf Embryo-transfer was done on 18th April 2016, during which my wife had completely stopped taking the medicine (thyroxine) as the doctor didn't prescribe for it (based on the result).
It only striked me on the 15th April (the egg retrieval day) about her hypothyroidism. Immediately I brought up the topic to the Doc, and we were asked to get a test done. TSH was elevated to 8.3, the doctor told her to start on thyroxine 50 immediately and we should proceed with the IVF without any worry.
I read somewhere on the Internet that sometimes it takes 1-2 months for the thyroid medication to react. Could it be this that our ivf failed without implantation? Her ultrasound after the failed ivf showed everything else such as the endometrial wall and the rest were all normal. As the US scan was all normal the Doctor wanted us to try again, he believes that there is a bright side and also that she has proven fertility.
For your information we already have a daughter (4 and a half years old), conceived naturally too.
Your answer will be highly appreciated and really help clear our doubt.
Sincerely
Victor
