Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi there, so my wife is freaked out about the fact that I had acute pancreatitus! I went to the hospital with severe abdominal pain 3 months ago and stayed in for 5 days. The diagnosis was that I drank alcohol to much which was what caused ihe condition. In fact when I was much younger (10 years ago I am certain that I did drink too much.) I don't drink anymore at all in fear of a relapse. In the past 10 years I drank, but not much. Normally a couple of coolers a day and once in a while I would add a little vodka to the mix but not very often. I am in the coatings business since 1999 and quite often I would get lots of MEK on my skin while cleaning out my sprayer, which I am sure got absorbed into my skin. I am thinking that the MEK may have done most of the damage rather than the alcohol. I now am very concerned to get any MEK on my skin. By the way MEK is Methal Ethal Keytone. The doctor didn't think that MEK was a problem but I am one in 100,000 or perhaps more that does what I do. My main question is "should I be very concerned about the MEK which is the strongest solvent known to mankind and how can I make my wife feel better about my well being. Incidentally the doctor states in a letter to me that "Lloyd's post-pancreatitus complications have resolved?
