Hi...I am a runner and had a stress fracture of the cuneiform of right foot in september. i was put in an air boot for 6 weeks. After that I went back to wearing my sensible casual dress shoes for work and for the first couple of days i felt ok. Then on the 3rd day i noticed a pain in my 2nd metatarsal area....almost felt like another stress fracture cause i had one of those in that area on my left foot 3 years ago. So went to doctor and he said it could be a "stress reaction" to being out of the boot and in regular shoes. Said to take it easy, still no running, but could do elliptical, biking and leg strengthening. So for 3 more weeks I did that and could still feel the area was tender and if I walked I could really feel it. Went back to doc after 3 weeks and he said to start back slowly running. I only ran about 20 minutes on a treadmill and could feel the pain becoming more intense. I invested in a tens unit and tried to calm it down with that and ice. I called doc and told him the pain was more constant and was told to give it more time. i dont understand what it is and the fact that my first stress fracture in september was misdiagnosed originally as tendonitis, i am a little worried that it is indeed something more. I ran today on treadmill to test it and once again am in pain that is actually causing me to limp because when i bend my foot the area by my second toe is very tender and swollen. What could have caused this area to become so painful just by being in regular shoes and now gets so inflamed by something that i used to do like running. Would you advise another MRI? didnt know i had to pay to get answer .....never mind
