High BP Reading During Check Up. 2D Echo Test Suggested. History Of Low BP. Causes?
We had taken my mother in law whose age is 76 years to a general physician for an ailment of cold & cough . During a routine BP check up it was found that her BP was 190/60 and the physician has asked us to go for 2D echo test and consult a cardiologist . My mother in law has got a low BP problem. can you pls let us know what the above reading might mean?...thanks in advance
There are some cough and cold medications that can raise blood pressure, if your mother in law used any of these, it may account for some of the elevation.
Since it is significantly above what it is normally, you may want to consider having it repeated. For the repeat measurement she should be seated for at least 5 minutes, no coffee or tea 1 hr prior to the reading, empty bladder and bowel, wait 2 hrs after a big meal.
It is important to follow up on any investigations suggested by your doctor.
Additional tests would be kidney function tests, cholesterol tests and screening for diabetes.
I hope this helps
