High SGPT Level Even After Stopping Alcohol. How To Control It?
I am 42 yrs. Recently I checked my SGPT ( ALT ) which is 66. I drink alcohol on an average 2-3 times (generally twice) a week. After 5 week staying away from alcohol it is still at same level. I am not sure if it is alcoholic or non alcoholic. Is there any means we can differentiate between alc and non-alc fatty lever problem. Kindly advice if there is any risk and means to control the ALT level. Thanks AP
It is good that you are health conscious and staying away from alcohol.
Levels of SGPT upto 66 IU/L is not alarming.
It may require some more time for the values to come back to normal.
Non-alcoholic liver disease is associated with diabetes mellitus, obesity, malnutrition, etc.
See if you have any of these risk factors.
You can get the values of SGPT and preferably SGOT also after abstaining from alcohol for some more time.
Thanks and take care
