High Fasting Sugar After Fasting For Long Hours, Non-diabetic, Had Gestational Diabetes. Cause?

I just checked my blood sugar level (with a gluclose monitor) after fasting for 14 hours and it is at 130. My levels have tested (with blood tests at docs office) around 100-105. Is the current level high because I fasted? I m going into the lab now to run some routine tests (sugar and hdl/ ldl ) should I worry? I am not diagnosed diabetic but I try to keep a check on it since i had 2 kids with gestational diabetises in the last 4 years.

Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic forum.

Depending on the type of apparatus used, blood glucose levels measured on a glucometer is a mechanical reading and needs to be confirmed by a blood test at a reputed laboratory.

Considering the value was normal at your doctor’s office and it is a single high reading on the glucometer, it is not appropriate to comment whether or not you have diabetes. I suggest you to repeat your blood sugars at a reputed laboratory and get glycosylated hemoglobin after 3 months to know about your true diabetes status.

It is a good effort to track your blood sugars regularly especially when there is a family history of diabetes. Regular blood checks and good lifestyle will keep diabetes at bay.

Hope I have provided you with some useful information.

Wish you good health.

Regards
