History Of Back Surgery. Taking Tramadol. How Much Can Be Safely Taken In A Day?
Hello, I am a retired EMT-111, In hawaii we are called Mobile Intensive Care Technicians, MICT and are trained
extensivley to Run and Dx EKG's. I went out on disability, after two Helicopter related rescue accident's. I have
had 2 back surgeries, One failed fusion. My question, I take tramadol 4 50mg short acting in 24 hr. period. My
cardiologist insist I have to stay away from Ibu 800 and Naprosyn/Tylenol due to my heart. The tramadol works
best if I take two in AM with breakfast, work doing landscaping light. Then two with dinner and one before going
to bed. How much of the short acting 50mg can I safely take in a 24 hr. period.

Hi there,
The maximum dosage of tramadol is 300 mg/day. You are taking 2 in the morning and 3 at night, if I am correct. That would be 250 mg/ day of tramadol which is quite safe.
However, I would advise you to sign up yoga classes/ meditation classes after you discuss this with your treating physician. Any medication that is taken over a long period is not good for you. Hence resort to other methods like yoga/meditation to deal with your pain issues.
Avoid alcohol while on tramadol. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day.
