History Of Murmur, Anxiety During Exams. Why Did Doctor Ask About Heart Disease History?
Hi, I am 31 years old..when I was born I was diagnosed with an innocent heart murmur which was completely gone at the age of 4. Last year (October 2011) in a period of great anxiety I had a full heart exams (Echo, ultrasound ) and everything was fine. Today I went to the doctor for a check up since I am an athlete. He heared my heart and he asked if I had a history with murmur. Obviously he heared something but when I told him my history he did not seem to worry at all..Should I search it more or everything is ok?
Hi
Echo is the best test to evaluate any type of murmur so if your echo normal then i think its a innocent murmur and nothing to worry
but ya murmur can also cause my hyper dynamic circulation like anaemia so i advice to do one simple test do one Hb also
still you have doubt then once again do echo but in other heart centre to get second opinion take care
Hi,
Welcome to HCM
After going through history it is possible to have murmur and no significant heart disease so do not worry,as Echocardiography is very accurate in good hands even colordoppler study may be performed to detect any trivial abnormality.
It is important for you to have medical check up as you are athlete in which cardiac endurance is very important.
Other medical condition must be checked like anaemia and thyroid disorder.
Some murmur are produced just by a flat chest so get a cardiological examination and also plan for a TMT to see your exercise tolerance and check you are fit to take up athletics as comptition and become a professional athlete.
Good luck to you
