History Of Sugar Level Being 8.3, Was On Metformin. Swelling In Knee After Stopping Medication Followed By Weight Loss. Advice
Hi; a number of years ago when I was younger my sugar level was always 8.3; the attendants always told me that was good; I found out later that it wasn't so a Dr started me on metphormin and I took that for a number of years; since Jan 2012 I got back into walking and losing weight; went from 226 to 196; took me 8 months to do this but I am happy with that; my Dr told me that my blood levels were very good and she didn't think I should be taking the meds anymore so I stopped taking them; now it looks like I got what they call water on the knee; does this have anything to do with the diabetis???????and if so how the frig do I get rid of it???
There can be various causes for water in knee like osteoarthritis, trauma to the knee joint, cartilage tear, overuse of knee, obesity, gout etc. Diabetes in itself doesn't cause effusion n knee but can result in bacterial Infection of water already present in knee joint. You must consult an orthopedic and get required investigations like serumuric acid, tests for Rheumatoid arthritis,X-ray knee joint and MRI of knees Treatment would depend upon the cause found. Keep control of your blood sugar levels. Thanks

Hi.
You can continue Tab Metformin 500mg as this wont cause hypoglycemia but can help in treating/prevent diabetes. It has some good cardiac protective action also. So since you had started it I advice you to start again after discussing with your doctor.
Water on the knee, I hope it is pedal edema. May be due to diabetes or due to other cause. Management based on the diagnosis. So get done following investigation to find the cause. LFT, RFT, Blood glucose level and CBS.
Now you can take plenty odf hight fibre diet and do regular exercise.
Hope this helps. Regards
