History Of Tooth Removal. X-ray Shows Black Area. Concerned About Missing Black Spot

I had both eye teeth removed 30 years ago because they were growing inside the roof of mouth. I just changed dentists and he took a full set of x-rays. He saw a black area where one eye tooth once was. He was concerned because he only saw the black spot on one side, not the other. What could this be. He said he was going to consult a surgeon. My next appointment is in three days. I'm frantic.

Hello,

Thanks for sharing your concern,

Your question is not so clear to me but whatever you have mentioned from that I feel your Dentist told about sinus...

We have 2 maxillary sinuses on either side of the nose...normally it shows black color in radiograph...

If some pathology is there in it can gives a white color...

Don't be panic...

I think you will get your answer after consulting with your doctor...

Wish you good health.....

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

The black area under tooth seen radiologically, usually occurs due to periapical infection and thereby cyst or abscess formation.

I would advice you to get the infected pulp removed as well as drain the pus within the canals.

Take amoxycillin along with analgesics.

Maintain oral hygiene well.

Hope this helps.

Hi, it appears to be the tooth once upon a time , and probably it is atrophied now, On the other side there is no tooth, due to some reason. The dentist may prefer to remove the black tooth to prevent the infection. There wont be any difficulty for you.
Thank you.

hello
the black spots seen in radiograph are the maxillary sinus that is usually filled with air and hence black coloue in radiograph
now as you say that you have got some tooth extracted on both sides ,so there is a possibility that one of your sinus has got some infection
and an infected sinus appears white in color in a radiograph
dont panic , you will be told about the infection in your next appointment and appropriate medications would do the needful to reduce and clear the infection
best of luck

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Black spot seen on the radiograph ususally indicates periapical infection, presence of cyst.As it is near the roof of the mouth can also be an sinus infection.

Take a second opinion.
Take a course of antibiotics .
Take antiseptic mouthwash rinses twice daily.
Maintain a good oral hygiene.

Hope this helps out,

Regards...
