Hit My Nose, Had Bleeding. Is The Cartilage Cracked?
Last night, I was at colorguard practice. I hit my nose pretty hard with a rifle. I don t remember hearing a crack, but it bled, which my nose never does, and it still hurts really bad. It hurts to wiggle my nose and everything. I ve broken my nose before, and I know it s not broken. But could I have cracked the cartilage in my nose?
Our nose is one of the most bleed susceptible organ in the body. Even a small trauma can cause injury and bleed. But the same is in the case of healing also as it has so much blood supply that it heals pretty well and fast!
Having said the above, we know that your nose bleed will eventually stop and also it will become better but it is always better to know that there is no crack in the bone or cartilage or just a tear in the skin which may require a stitch.
In any case consult an ENT who may do an endoscopy to rule out any active bleed or injury and perform an X Ray for a bone fracture. Like you asked even cartilage may break and bleed but it is not a major problem
If the shape of the nose has changed much and you have nose block the doctor may also suggest more definitive measures
Meanwhile do not blow your nose hard and do not meddle
take care
