i had a condom break during vaginal sex with my girlfriend, she confessed to me that she is hiv positive after about 2 days later, i then took pep. one week after completing pep my doctor advised me to go for a HIV- 1 DNA PCR and it came out negative. My question is how conclusive is this result
Hello As you mentioned that you got PCR DNAHIV 1 after 9 days of sexual contract with your girl friend . Antibodies to HIV begin to appear within 2 weeks ( 14-15 days ) of infection( primary infection or contract with your girl friend ,but you got test after 9 days i.e. NOT CONCLUSIVE ), and the period of time between initial infection and the development of detectable antibodies if rarely more than 3 months ( 90 days ).
To be absolutely sure you need to do the tests at 90 dyas & when it comes NEGATIVE then only you can be declared HIV negative as the window period fro HIV might be as high as 3 months ( 90 days ) , as I mentioned above. Hope this will help you.
