How Can chronic Laryngitis Along With Nasal Polyps Be Treated?
Hi I have had chronic laryngitis which has been enough to stop me teaching. My doctor says I have nasal polyps and has put me on the nasal spray Nasacort. He says this will also reduce the post nasal drip which is causing this. Is he correct and is there anything else I can do to speed up the process?
Nasonex or any of the nasal steroids would help to reduce the post nasal drip but in addition, the use of an oral antihistamine/ decongestant combination would also be helpful even if there is no nasal congestion.
The decongestant helps reduce the drip.
Unfortunately these medications sometimes have to be used for 2 to 3 weeks before there is any effect.
If there is no improvement then your doctor may consider adding montelukast or ketotifen. These medications work at different points in the inflammatory/allergy response.
I hope this helps
