How Can cough Along With Nasal Congestion In A Child Be Treated?

Hello! My little sister, 5 years old, has 3 months with respiratory system problems. Her airways are blocked with secretions. she has cough, nose blocked. She has been taking different antibiotics and antihistaminic, nothing changed. Doctors gave her to do the IGE test, resulting in a very weak, nonsymptomatic allergy of wheat flour and dog hairs. Today she went to a pneumolog pediatrician, she said that during auscultation she heard noises in the left side. She recommended a pulmonary radiography. The result was this: Dexter hilar and subhilar drawings seem enlarged. Pulmonary transparency in the border level. Phrenicocostal sinus free. Cardio-thoracic ratio is normal. We don t have the interpretation of this radiography yet. Your help would be great. Thank you in advance.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

The radiograph of the lungs is normal.

The symptoms of blocked airways with secretions, cough are suggestive of upper respiratory tract congestion.

Long-standing blockage and congestion can lead to infection.

So, I suggest you consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment, decongestant and then antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
