How Can loss Of Appetite In A Child Be Treated?

Halo Doc., my son is 1yr & 9mnths old. His weight is 10kg. He doesn t like to eat anything. His diet is very little & hence is very skinny. His mother likes to cook for him and has tried what not for him. He would not taste even a single bite. Butter, ghee, egg, chicken, fish, variety of fruits, cakes, biscuits etc are stacked always in our kitchen for him, but he won t eat. Also, he still feeds from his mother & drinks water but passes hard stool (1 or 2 pieces) in a two days time. The amount of water that goes in doesn t come out in same proportion. He urinates 3-4 time in a day. We are getting restless. Plz suggest something...

Hi,

I take this opportunity to tell you certain scientific facts and relieve your distress -
1. An active is a good kid even if she/he is not eating well.
2. Development of a kid is as important as or I would say even more important than growth alone.
3. As the kids grow their interest in food decreases and interest in play activities increases so that they eat small quantity and run away to play. As parents, we need to be more patient and feed than less quantity but more aliquots per day.
4. This age rather than the quantity of the food I suggest you concentrate more on the number of times you feed her and also make whatever you feed her calorie dense by adding a good amount of ghee to it.
5. I suggest you not to use appetite stimulants in the long run as they may cause drowsiness.

At her age interest in play increases and interest in food decreases. This is quite natural. If she is active and playing around you need not worry. This age rather than the quantity of the food I suggest you concentrate more on the number of times you feed her and also make whatever you feed him calorie dense by adding a good amount of ghee to it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
