How Can severe Alzheimer S Disease And Hallucinations Be Treated?
My husband has Advaned Alzheimer disease and has spent 3 weeks in a Sernior Psych unit to adjust his Meds. He is taking 1.5 tab of Trazodone to help him sleep through the night. He can have hallucinations some days. The home Health Care RN from SW Peace Health Hospital has recommended DIVALPHOEX for MOOD SWINGS. Will that help reduce his hallucinations?
Hi there. Divalproex is an aniconvulsant which is used as a mood stabilizer. Hallucinations is a psychotic symptoms which will need an antipsychotic. If these hallucinations are not there the entire time and do not bother and do not command him to do things I wil just keep an eye on it before starting treatment. It is common for older people to get confused and psychotic symptoms after a simple infection like a UTI so maybe rule out an infection first.
