Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a bnp blood test that showed a reading of 809 (normal is 0-450. This was done because I was short of breath. I have Afib (a pacemaker) and cardiomyopathy. Furosimide was prescribed for 3 days. The 3rd day I had reactions to this med. I have been told that pycnogenol was good as a diuretic at 300mg doses. Do you have any research or opinions of this. Ruth
Pycnogenol is not as powerful as a diuretic and doesn't recognize in cardiology to treat heart failure.
I would recommend you to talk to your doctor and discuss to switch you to another diuretic. Even if you have experienced the reaction to Furosemide, there are other diuretics, that can be used instead of it, such as Torasemide, Spironolactone, Hypothiazide etc.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Lilit Baghdasaryan,
Cardiologist
