Hi,

Synthroid is a good and adequate treatment for hypothyroidism. Stay in touch with your Family Physician/Endocrinologist for adequate control, dose adjustment and additional calcium and vitamin supplement if and when needed.

In addition to medicines, to better your thyroid health you can do the following.

Exercise 45 minutes daily. Walking/swimming/aerobics whatever you are comfortable.

Avoid junk food, fast food, packaged food. Eat whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables, salads. drink plenty of water.

Eat a balanced diet with adequate proteins. Reduce weight and bring a BMI in healthy range 18-24.

Do not skip meals. Eat at regular intervals. Consume iodised salt daily, seafood (once in a week at least).

You might need vitamin D and calcium supplements. Also check for deficiency of other vitamins like B12.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manisha Roy,
