Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. Recently my doctor lowered my synthroid from 1.5 mcg to .88 mcg. I am wondering if my lack of energy or drive to do anything might be due to the drop in my synthroid dosage. I had a cold recently and the cold hung on for two weeks. Now I am just drained of any energy or drive to do anything. I am usually a Type A person and I can not believe the difference in my feeling of well being.
Common Cold and other viruses can cause mild temporary increase or decrease in thyroid hormone levels due to the so called Thyroidites. This is temporary and soon you will have to go back on your initial maintenance dosage of Levothyroxine-Synthroid. So just suggest to your provider that you will like to do an updated Thyroid function test. He can write it to you and I will not be surprised if you are right in the first place about suspecting your symptoms being related to change in Synthroid's dosage.
All the best.
