How Can severe Leg Pain Be Treated?

Hello and thank you for your assistance. I have leg pain to my upper thigh on the outside, roughly where my fingertips fall when I am standing up. When I place my left foot on the ground and tourqe or twist my leg, I feel a sharp sudden pain which feels like it is in the bone rather than muscular. Nothing has recently changed - when this problem occurred, it is during my usual style of walking. This type of pain never occurred until this week. This pain has happened 5-6 times over the past week. I am 57 years old and I do not have any medical conditions or prior trauma although I am overweight (166 pounds on 5 6 frame). I am healthy but I have a sedentary job. I participate in yoga twice a week and usually walk about 1 mile 3-4 times per week, depending on the weather. The pain is sometime mild but twice the pain was so strong I had to stop walking and try to grab onto something. I ran my symptoms through the Webmd symptom checker but I did not see any illnesses on the site which struck a cord. I am wondering if this is an issue I should address with my family physician in your opinion. Additionally, if you have any suggestions which would help me pinpoint a cause of this pain so I can complete further research, I would appreciate it. Thanks again.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Consult an orthopedician and get evaluated. An MRI scan is required for further evaluation. As of now analgesics like Aceclofenac or Tramadol can be tried for symptomatic relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
