Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Chronic skin condition.....sores appear randomly and as a result of picking or scratching, I have a great deal of scarring. Punch biopsies have been done, many different dermatologists seen and the only diagnosis has been lichen planus. No creams, ointments, light txs, have been successful. I think it must be related to diet. Something I am eating, or a nutrient that I m lacking. These sores appear all over....arms, legs, buttocks, and neck. Any suggestions?
Lichen planus is a skin rash triggered by the immune system. It’s not known why the immune response occurs.
For mild cases of lichen planus, which usually clear up in weeks or months, you may not need any treatment.
If the symptoms are uncomfortable or severe, your doctor can prescribe medication.

There is no cure for lichen planus, but medications that treat the symptoms are helpful and some may even be able to target a possible underlying cause.
Talk to your doctor before adding OTC products to your treatment plan. This way you’ll be certain that nothing you might take will interact with prescription medications you’re taking.
Lichen planus can be uncomfortable but is not dangerous. With time and a combination of home and prescription treatments, your rash will clear up.
