How Can severe Sciatica Pain Be Treated?

I have severe pain that I have self diagnosed as sciatica problem based on the symptoms I described to my son and 3 friends who have had the problem. I am 83 years old, Type 2 Diabetic, have knees that should be replaced, have a pacemaker due to Afib. Take blood thinner Pradaxa, couple of other drugs for cholestrol and sotolal and digoxin. Surgery is not an option for me now, I am 24/7 care taker for my wife, and nursing home not an option for her while I go through surgery and rehab. This just started about a week or so ago and I have not talked to a Dr. or anyone at a local spine group.
