How Can ADHD Be Treated?

I have been diagnosed with ADHD and so has my daughter. The last few months I have noticed my symptoms which are making it hard to get my daily task done in my personal life and at work. I am a charge nurse which my patients rely on me to be focused and organized. The medication I am needing a prescription for is vyvanse 60mg twice daily. I also don t have a pcp or medical insurance at this time which is making it really difficult for me to get a prescription at this time. I hope I can find help here.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It appears that you already know your diagnosis, the medication you need to treat it with, as well as its dosage. How can this be? When were you diagnosed with ADHD initially? Who was treating you? Is any medical provider following you now? Vyvanse is on the FDA's drug list for controlled substances as a Category 2 substance. It has a high abuse potential. The Ask A Doctor Company will not allow the physicians it employs to write any prescription by Internet. Individuals who have symptoms of ADHD need to be evaluated by a physician who takes a good history asking about your symptoms, followed by a complete physical to rule out other causes of your symptoms other that ADHD, and perhaps administer a test to see how many of your behaviors are typical of ADHD. Then if the doctor feels you have ADHD, he/she will discuss treatment with you. This would be the most effective and safest way to diagnose ADHD. I feel certain that as a member of the medical profession you want a doctor who knows you to make the diagnosis and follow you to make sure your treatment is effective and without side effects. If you have no doctor currently, I strongly recommend you go to your nursing supervisor or to the employee health doctor at your hospital and address your situation with one of them. They want to keep a good nurse and have your best interests at heart.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Arnold Zedd
