How Can Asperger S Syndrome Be Treated?

We are raising our grandson who has turned 18 and is a senior. He has Asperger s and refuses to see a psychiatrist. He would not go to an appointment that I made for him. Being 18 there was nothing I could do. His anger scares us and know he needs help. Any suggestions? Just sent a question but forgot e-mail.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Asperger Syndrome syndrome is a developmental disorder affecting ability to effectively socialize and communicate.
Treatment include:
1. Social skills training.
2. Speech language therapy.
3. Cognitive behavioral therapy.
4. Parent education and training.
5. Positive behavioral techniques.
6. Medications like Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), Antipsychotic drugs and Stimulant medicines to counter depression and anxiety. These treatment would be possible on consultation with Psychiatrist.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
