Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, my 10 year old was diagnosed with Asperger s. Since November he has been frequent episodes of rage and temper tantrums to not getting his way or not being treated nicely in his view of why he loses his temper. Is this more of a maturity issue for him, or is there any relation to this with children with Asperger s or any other autism spectrum?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Asperger’s syndrome(AS) can be managed to an extent. Complete cure is not possible even with appropriate treatment. Temper tantrum wil progressively disappear as child grows and very rare after the age of fifteen. AS can be treated with cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT) and most kids improves with it. Rarely medical treatment also may be required. Consult a child psychiatrist and he will direct you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
