How Can Bell S Palsy Be Treated?

I am struggling with ongoing neurological issues. This has been going on for over 5 years. The condition affected my C7 nerve and my face experienced bilateral palsy. I was in the hospital 7 days, 3 in a local one and 4 in John Hopkins. The neurologists could not diagnose the condition. ....possibly a virus that couldn t be tested for. Now my symptoms have been worsening over the last 6 months. Numbness again in my face, blurred vision, aches all over and others. I wonder about lymes but was told a spinal in 2012 was negative when i had the palsy. I am just at a loss and withering away.

Hello,

As per your query, you have symptoms of Bell's palsy that are weakness and paralysis of facial muscles of one side mainly left, and it seems to be due to inflammation or viral infiltration of the nerve that can cause infection of the facial nerve that is a seventh cranial nerve and supplies muscles of the face.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you do:
- Do mouth stretching exercises such as blow in and out after closing nostrils.
- Take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain.
- Start with facial muscle physiotherapy.
- You should maintain hygiene and apply cold compresses every 4 hourly alternative with warm compresses.

You should also consult an orthopedic and maxillofacial surgeon/neurologist once for proper examination and start with a proper course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications and vitamin supplement.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
