How Can HIV Status Be Confirmed?

Hello doctor. I had an unprotected sex last six month and i heared that the girl is HIV positive so, i went for test last 3 months and the result was RVT=NON reactive but the doctor asked me to retest after 3 months and i did it but the result was still the same as the first test. What i need to know is am i HIV negative or i still need to repeat the test after a period of time?

Hello,

Yes, you should get repeat tests done. Since your status is unknown you should talk to your treating doctor and take PrEP, it reduces the risk of HIV from sex by more than 90%. You will be treated with antibiotics & antivirals.

It does not protect you from other STI's. Even if you are taking PrEP, you should use condoms to be protected from other STI's.
Taking PrEP has side effects & health hazards, take it as prescribed by your treating doctor or health worker. Avoid multiple partners & practice safe sex.
