Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been on 40mg of pantaprazole for a little over 1 year. I have GERD! I would like to come off. Have been manging it through lifestyle changes. Doctor told me to try getting off by taking it everyother day. Days I take it I get a tightness on right side of throat which feels like I can't breathe and leads to panic. How can I come off of it?I know its long term side effects are not good.
You can consider using alternate day therapy as suggested by your doctor. It would be important to maintain any lifestyle changes to reduce the chances of symptoms recurring.
The symptoms that you are experiencing on the days you do not use the medication seem more in keeping with anxiety and not reflux.
You may want to consider speaking to your doctor about this issue.
I hope this helps
