How Can I Regain My Taste And Smell After A Prolonged Loss Since COVID-19, And Could Antibiotics Like Bactrim And Ciprofloxacin Be Affecting Them?

I was diagnosed with covid 19 in April 2021 and am still suffering from loss of taste and smell. How can I get them back. I have been on Bactrim and within the last month ciprofloxacn due to a toe infection in the bone in my big toe. Could antibiotics effect smell and taste as well. Help

Hi,
I think, antibiotics like Bactrim and Ciprofloxacin have no unwanted side effect like loss of taste or smell. These are the results of disease process itself. Usually, there is no specific treatment for this. It usually takes its own time and gradually recovers itself, taking a long time in some cases. In some cases, the effect may be left even after 1-2 years.

Just to increase the immunity of body with healthy life style, healthy diet, proper sleep, adequate physical exercise, proper hydration and avoiding smoking, alcohol and caffeinated drinks may accelerate the process of recovery to some extent.
