You are advised to remove the nail extensions & keep your feet and nails clean. Use an antibacterial soap to clean your foot and nails clean. Nail bed inflammation can be caused by a small skin injury that allows bacteria or fungi to penetrate. Thus, it appears swollen & sore.
Get clinically examined by a GP. what you are thinking to be water retention is probably abscess, that needs urgent medical attention. Acetaminophen or Naproxen will relieve pain. A course of oral antibiotics or antibiotic shots may be needed as well. You will be treated with medicines or recommended surgery if needed.
