How Can IBS Along With Diarrhea Be Treated?

I have had diviticulitis, and had surgery last year. my intestines were highly inflamed on the left side. the same thing seems to be happening again. I ve lost weight, I have IBS as of now I have diarrhea that s not watery but I can t keep food down. I have no appetite. My doctor has put me back on Flagyl 500mg. My doctor is a GI physician.

Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of diverticulitis and got operated last year for highly inflamed intestines. Loosing weight, pain, have IBS, diarrhea which is not watery, can not keep food down, no appetite, GI Physician put you on Flagyl 500.
We will have to confirm the diagnosis for which I would advise you the following:
Contrast enhanced CT scan and tests of blood, stool can given an idea about the possible cause of the present problem, whether it is repeat of the disease or something anew.
Colonoscopy once the problems is lessened enough.
Additional antibiotic can help you most.
Diet as advised if tolerating.
If necessary admission and intravenous fluids and antibiotics may be necessary.
Once the diagnosis is clear further course of actions whether medical or surgical can then be decided and implemented.
