How Can IBS Be Treated?

i was told i have ibs, is that the same as leaky gut and where can i find the best holistic care for this, i have been sick for about 15 yrs and traditional doctors have not been able to help me. I currenlty have bronchitis, just got a cortisone shot, meds and cough syrup-she sick and coughing awful after 4 days of meds. I am at my wits end, been sick off and on since Jan 15, 2018 and just need to get my immune system back up and working, any suggestions? Thanks Jane

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

IBS is belly discomfort or pain and trouble with bowel habits: diarrhea or constipation or having a different kind of stool (thin, hard, or soft and liquid) or mix of above mentioned symptoms. Dietary changes are very important: Add fiber to your diet, say no to caffeine(coffee/soda), increase water intake, limit milk intake, eat small portions of the meal and carefully watch and make the lists of the food that may flare this condition so that a check is there for intake of these foods.

Medications may include: Bulking agents like Psyllium, antibiotics like Rifaximin, for pain management, antispasmodics like Buspan, probiotics. If there is constipation, then polyethylene glycol is a good option or Plecanatide. For diarrohea, Loperamide can be taken. For pain relief, Buspan can be taken.

Please take care to consult the physician as the medications may vary, depending on your other health conditions.

Hope this helps. Wishing for your good health.
