My youngest daughter just delivered early at 32 weeks because of massive clots on the left side of her pelvis. Drs. diagnosed May-Thurner Syndrome and her blood workup just showed Factor 5 mutation of the blood. As her father do I need to be tested as well. I am almost 63 years old and never had a problem. I am extremely active and stay in shape exercising daily. She has three older siblings. Do they need to be tested? Thanks

How Can May-Thurner Syndrome Be Diagnosed?
Hello, May Thurner syndrome or iliac vein compression syndrome is a mechanical problem which increases one s chances of forming blood clots. Its not an inherited or genetic disease. So you or your other children don t need to be tested. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Nazma.amman, General & Family Physician
