Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. A friend of mine asked me if I thought it would be helpful to her 12 year old daughter who has Retts disease to have a service dog--primarily to help her with anxiety. Do you know of any literature on this matter or have experience with this disease. I have known her daughter for about 5 years. Her anxiety is controlled pretty well with medications. She has no language skills (uses visual cues and computer-assisted communications), limited use of her hands, but in my layperson opinion, has fairly good social skills given her condition. She is in public school system. Thoughts?
Consult a neurologist and get evaluated. He might require drugs and along with cognitive behavioural therapy also. Emotional support and constant motivation are also required.
