How Can UTI Be Treated?

I have had a UTI starting since Sunday and then a yeast infection on top of that so I am so miserable. I am being treated by my physician for the UTI but was using Monistat for the yeast infection. It has done nothing to help so today my physician called in a pill for it. Just curious how long it takes for it to relieve some of my symptoms?

Hello, thanks for asking on healthcaremagic. A UTI gets cleared with a seven day antibiotic course. But some sturdy bacteria like pseudomonas might persist longer. It is of utmost importance for the antibiotic to be affective on the bacteria and for that it is recommended that antibiotics be given only after a culture sensitivity examination. Irrational use might lead to emergence of resistant strains. A fungal infection also would clear up in 7-10 days after drug intake. Kindly check if you have any underlying problem like diabetes which is predisposing you to UTIs. In such cases it might take even longer. Hope I helped you out. Thanks.
