How Can A Benign Brain Tumor Be Treated?

I was diagnosed with brain tumor, a couple of days ago. The tumor is non-malignant. The doctor gave me 3 options, 1. surgery to remove. 2 radiation to remove. 3. leave it alone and do MRI every six months, to make sure does not grow. The neuro surgeon suggested just watching it, to see if it grows. But can t this cause farther damage if the tumor grows?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, Thanks for posting your query on Healthcare Magic...
* Brief Answer: follow up benign tumour with MRI every six months as long as no dangerous symptoms develop.
*Explanation: My opinion is that benign tumour is characterized by round well defined border that doesnot invade other surrounding tissues ,only some compression but no distant metastasis.
I suggest my patients the following   : if no serious symptoms developed as severe headache ,projectile vomiting or photophobia. Nothing to worry about . Follow up in these cases is crucial to monitor size and signs of compression or bleeding in the tumour.
The information provided by you is not sufficient to provide a good opinion. If someone comes to me with this condition I would ask them about provisional diagnosis of type of the tumour.also if there are any symptoms you might have that suggest different management
*Conclusion: I suggest you follow up with your specialist to see if you have any signs or symptoms that should be checked.

If you have any further questions I will be happy to help, If not, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish you good health.
