My 2 years old son was advised for cbC test. The following is the result of the same: Hemoglobin - 9.00, PCV 30.40, RBC Count - 5.45, MCV - 55.90, MCH - 16.90, MCHC - 29.60, Red Cell Distribution Width - 19.80, Total Leukocyte Count - 9.40. he has been advised an Hb HPLC test to rule out Thalassemia Minor. I am worried. Please suggesy
Thalassemia minor is seems to be possibility here for which hplc test done (rbc mass also High)
Thalassemia minor is not any major illness, so don't worry if thalassemia minor is positive.
Thalassemia minor patient usually doesn't need blood transfusion and patient cam live normally. During marriage, partner is to be preferably thalassemia negative to avoid thalassemia major child.
