How Can A Bruise Around The Eye Be Treated?

I fell and hit my forehead 3 days ago. Yesterday morning I woke up with bruising around my eye on the same side. This morning it had spread to the other eye. It clearly gets worse while I sleep. The spot is tender, but there s no headache, no blurry vision, no other symptoms. Do I need to go to the emergency room, or can I wait and see my doctor tomorrow?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You are having something called “ black eyes” or “raccoon eyes “ . It is due collection of blood underneath the soft tissues around your eyes. It might be a sign of underlying facial bone fractures and has to be evaluated as soon as possible. I suggest you to rush to your nearest hospital and get a CT scan done immediately. As of now apply ice packs around the eyes for symptomatic relief. You can take analgesics like paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
