Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I burn the inside of my arm with a curling iron and now it is swelling and red. It does not burn or hurt. The inside is 1/2 and the outside edges are a bright red about 1/4 around and the swelling is 2 out on only one side. I am using Triple Antibiotics Ointment with a gauze pad. Should I see a doctor? Thank you. Gina
dear user about your question i would like to say to you that burn is avery good area for the bacteria to develop and infections....because of loss of skin or injured skin the bacteria find agood media to multiply in and that is the most risk of burn is the infection....management and treatment of burn differ according to degree of burn and according to the micro organism that cause infection....first line of treatment is removing devitalised and necrotic tissue and cleaning of the burned area with antiseptic like betadine that kills bacteria in the burned area and aplying of local cream of silver sulfadiazine has great topical effect.....and cover wound area with sterile dressing........so my advice to you to refer adoctor to remove necrotic tissue and cleanse the wound as it will be difficult to you to do that and to detect taking oral antibiotics or not according to wound criteria....generally your burn is of 1 st degree or 2nd degree and it will improve rapidly but follow these simple steps and you will be fine.......wish you healthy life
