Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 20 year old daughter has a cold sore on her lip that is giving her a lot of discomfort. She is 5 2 and weighs about 110 pounds. She has put on some Abrevia medicine to help it but no change yet. She has had it for at least 2 days maybe 3. Wanted to see if there was anything else that could help it. Thank you,
Abreva can help in reducing the duration of the cold sore and help in faster healing..
But abreva alone is not sufficient if there are recurring episodes of the eruption of cold sore..
As cold sore is a viral infection caused by Herpes simplex virus 1, therefore she needs antiviral medications for faster healing and reducing the frequency of occurrence of cold sore..
Also it can take upto maximum of 2 weeks for the sore to heal..
So my suggestion is to either have patience and see if it resolves or else consult your Physician and get checked so that he can advise her a course of antiviral medication like Acyclovir, Valacyclovir etc and also topical ointments like Valtrex..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
